Kingsville, Texas – Conner Brown, up-and-coming athlete on the USA Surf Casting Team and member of the Carolina Surf Casters Association, broke the all-time United States record for the longest cast of a 175 gram (~6.25 ounces) sinker. Brown threw the cast on Sunday, November 17, as part of Shore Fishing & Casting Club International’s “Texas Open” competition at Dick Kleberg Park. The official measurement of his cast was 838’ 3”.

“I was surprised,” says Brown, a South Carolina native visiting Texas for the tournament. “I was forced to use a reel that was having technical problems, and the 839’ cast was in the morning, before prime weather conditions set in later that afternoon.”

Standard surf casting competition comprises four different sinker weight categories, with 175 grams being the heaviest. The previous record holder for longest cast in the 175 gram sinker category was Will Nash of Texas.
