Achievement Despite Grueling Conditions at CSCA June 2025 Surf Casting Competition

Conner Brown at the CSCA June 2025 Surf Casting Competition

Windsor, VA – Members and guests of the Carolina Surf Casters Association gathered at their Heritage Park stomping grounds on June 7th and 8th for the club’s second surf casting tournament of the year.

Ever a factor for those seeking personal best (or “P.B.”) distances, the weather was hot and humid due to isolated rain storms in the region, and the air was stagnant with small gusts under 10 miles per hour finally picking up in the afternoon.

Regardless, there were accomplishments. Newcomer Sean Marsh, a long-time local drum fisherman, came very close to 200 yards and started his competitive casting career this weekend in the AA class.

Butch Lloyd and Andy Helton both achieved P.B.s; Butch hit 555’ 3” with the 100 gram sinkers, and Andy lobbed a 175 gram sinker just over 500’.

Jordan Bray was able to leverage superior power for a 700’+ cast to beat out Matt Tuers in the AAA class (one of the only two classes in contention this weekend), and Conner Brown won the tournament overall, with a 803’ 1” cast of the 150 gram sinker.

The CSCA would like to thank all the event participants for their assistance in set-up and take-down, and Butch Lloyd in particular for offering a grilled lunch to his fellow casters on both days of competition.
