An oppressive heatwave had settled over Virginia and the Carolinas just in time for the long-awaited Carolina Surf Casters Association June surf casting competition. Despite this, many of the top long distance casters from South Carolina to Maryland converged on the Joel C. Bradshaw Fairgrounds (a.k.a. Heritage Park) in Windsor, Virginia and were rewarded with distances they could be proud of.

Everyone was in top form, with notable increases in distance from Andy Helton, Butch Lloyd and John Mrocska. Although the measured wind predictions were not terribly alluring, decent southwest gusts did present themselves.
The big story was the continued rise of Myrtle Beach-area caster Conner Brown. It was hinted that he had reached 800’ in practice, and any skepticism was laid to rest as he surpassed that holy grail in all but the 100 gram sinker categories. With CSCA Vice President Ryan Lambert unable to attend, Conner stepped in as the dominant figure of the weekend and won the “Elite” class of competition.
