CSCA Launches into 2026 Surf Casting Tournament Season

Tommy Farmer at the Carolina Surf Casters Association March 2026 long distance casting tournament.

Green Sea, SC – A large crowd gathered at Grassy Bay Turf Farm on March 21 and 22 for the first East coast surf casting contest of the year. As competitors geared up and commenced with launching lead skyward, Tommy Farmer led a seminar for local surf fishermen on his “5 fundamentals of power casting”… an essential skill for serious anglers on beaches, piers, and rocks.

After the classroom-setting part of Tommy’s seminar, several of the attendees took advantage of the opportunity to join the main competition for a few rounds to get first-hand experience testing their new skills while Tommy offered hands-on instruction and critique.

Surf fishing podcaster and personality Brian Demo took up the CSCA on being their special guest on Saturday. He arrived with free samples of Fishbites artificial surf fishing baits for all in attendance, and took in the competitive surf casting scene, sitting in on Tommy Farmer’s seminar, launching a remote broadcast, and having a few swings of the rod himself. This was Brian’s first exposure to the “extreme sport” side of surf fishing, and he was taken aback by the skill, athleticism, and equipment on display.

Meanwhile, the regular competitors enjoyed above-average wind throughout a gorgeous weekend, leading to more than one “personal best” distance being achieved. CSCA Vice President Ryan Lambert prepared lunch for the group on Sunday, and won the overall competition with an 865 foot cast with a 150 gram sinker… within a yard of breaking his (and the United States’) current record of 867 feet.
