In light of weak winds, the opening day of the Primo Championship was treated by most casters as a warm-up/practice day as they anticipated 10 mph winds for Sunday with gusts up to 20 mph. The forecast came true; there was little movement as far as competitive rankings between Saturday and Sunday, but notable increases in each caster’s distances.
Veteran caster Goddy Ferrer came out on top in the competition with his highly technical casting style landing his sinkers consistently in the high 700 foot range, and an 8 ounce sinker just short of the 700 foot mark.
Ferrer threw lead of every weight class and dominated all but the 150 gram class, which was claimed by newcomer Conner Brown. His 749 foot cast was a 40 foot-plus gain from October’s competition in his home state of South Carolina. At this rate, Brown seems to be just warming up to smashing records in the coming years.
Perhaps even more mind-blowing was Jordan Bray’s performance: a more than 100 foot gain from the CSCA March Tournament. Bray is now approaching 700 feet, pulling away from his high-500-foot-casting (former) peers.
Thank you to all the casters who came out to compete, as well as to Tommy Farmer of CastPro Series rods who generously donated an 8 foot CPS Gen3 rod that served as an impressive prize.
